A Note from The Salome Institute Director:

It is important for us to stay connected to Soul, symbolism, and the unconscious right now, lest we all go mad with the ever changing chaos above ground.

Friends, these are extraordinary times. Once again, I find myself reflecting on Jung’s exploration of “The Way of What is to Come.” There are some uncanny parallels of this global crisis, fear, and rationing to some of the stories we’ve all heard about families bunkered down across Europe in WWII. Gratefully, there are no bombs, and we are not at war with one another.

Our world is rapidly re-learning introversion and making-do in ways most of us have never experienced. Perhaps in this strange battle with an invisible, global “enemy” we’ll see the world uniting in surprising solidarity. Signs suggest that amidst the suffering extraordinary new forms of connection and community are growing.

And The Salome Institute is a part of that. For anyone curious about the unconscious, Jung, depth psychological work, and finding meaning in these often painful times, we’re hoping to begin hosting free, online sessions every Sunday. More to come as we gather our bearings and clarify the proper form.

I’ll keep in touch and send announcements as we know more.

Please join us as we dive into an exploration of Jung’s Red Book through the astrology of those extraordinary times, and ours.

Through the scholarship and curiosity of Astrologer Carol Ferris, we’ll take an astrological lens to Jung's exploration of the nature of the unconscious that began in 1913, just before the outbreak of WWI.

Jung noted the exact dates of his encounters with the unconscious in the form of visions, dreams, and active imaginations. For an astrologer, and anyone interested in the rhythms of time and place, noting the astrological transits of these events as compared to Jung's natal horoscope is stunning. There’s a rich lesson here in the nature of transformation through contact with the infinite—what Jung called the Spirit of the Depths, or the collective unconscious.

This scholarship will be presented by Portland Astrologer Carol Ferris, and co-hosted by Salome Director and psychotherapist, Satya Doyle Byock.

This event is free and open to anyone who would like to join us.
