A Joseph Campbell Companion

As we retract back into our homes and maybe, as a result, more into our inner and relational lives, we could use our soulful guides to support us. As our world contracts like an inhale, pulling humans back into their dens, we could benefit from the wisdom of humans past who could see through the chaos to the heart of the matter.

Joseph Campbell has long been one of those guides for many of us, a teacher who could speak to the core of life and its mysteries with stories and wisdom. Never disappearing into esoteric thought that could not be shared, Campbell found ways to convey the world’s stories and convey their greatest gems to us modern people who need them deeply.

In this seminar, over 8 Friday mornings, we’ll explore a beautiful compilation of Joseph Campbell’s teachings — “Reflections on the Art of Living: A Joseph Campbell Companion” — as well as audio lectures. Weekly reading assignments will be met in group with discussion and sharing of creative and personal process.

Given current events and their impact on our collective lives, this seminar will involve some meditation, contemplation, encouragement of creative process, and sharing within the group. Each Salome Seminar seeks to be a container where intellectually rich and emotionally safe engagement can unfold. These sessions will encourage journaling, explorations of one’s dreams, and one’s own experiences in these times.

The warrior’s approach is to say ‘yes’ to life: ‘yea’ to it all.

Participate joyfully in the sorrows of the world.
— Joseph Campbell, "A Joseph Campbell Companion"
